Sneaky Thieves

Wickersley's Dangerous Crossing

Regular readers of the Rotherham Advertiser may remember that a few weeks ago, a letter from myself as printed, regarding the dangerous situation at the Pedestrian Crossing, situated at the top of Springfield Road, in Wickersley.

If I could just remined you of the nature of the problem; basically, motorists are travelling through the red lights at high speed in what can only be described as an attempt to "beat the lights." This means that pedestrians using the crossing are at risk from being knocked down due to the careless actions of these motorists.

I would like to say that as a result of my letter, I have been contacted by a lady, who also uses the crossing, and she has advised me that she too is experiencing the same problems and has had a lot of "near misses" in the past.

Consequently, we have now joined forces to campaign for something to be done about the problem.

Ultimately, we feel that a camera mounted on the lights would be the best course of action. That way, the culprits can be caught and prosecuted and it would act as a deterrent to other motorists who may be tempted to do the same.

My fellow campaigner has been in contact with South Yorkshire Police Authority and is in the process of contacting John Healey MP and Wickersley Parish Council.

However, we are both of the opinion that the chances of the problem being solved are slim unless other people, who have witnessed this are prepared to come forward and tell us about it.

Therefore, I would like to hear from anybody who has used the crossing and had a "near miss" or has even been knocked down as a result of the problem.

Please contact me by emailing me, if this is you. Kcobbers@aol.com

Thank you for your support.

WATCH OUT for the sneaky thieves.

This was one of the main concerns mentioned by South Yorkshire Police at the meeting held on Monday.  There has been a considerably rise in thieves gaining entry through unlocked back doors and grabbing handbags, wallets, car keys etc….

Where is your handbag now?  Is it near to the back door?  Can it be seen?  Where are your car keys?  Would you hear if someone came through your door now?  Keep it locked.  Keep Safe!
